Grand Coulee dam

Dam was started in the 30's with the main primary purpose of supplying 
irrigation to the Columbia Valley area - some 500,000 acres.  Secondary purpose 
was to control flooding along the Columbia river area all the way to Portland.


Inner workings below street level.  There are a total of 11 pumping stations like this one.
Each pump has the capability of pumping a billion gallons per day.
